Cloos Life Guide: 4 Niche Sports To Try Out This Summer

Cloos Life Guide: 4 Niche Sports To Try Out This Summer

Summer months provide the best conditions to go outside, enjoy some fresh air and get heart healthy. And with some time off, now is the time to try a new sport! Right here, we give you 4 unconventional, yet incredibly fun sports you should know about… and maybe even try for yourself. And the best of it all – these sports can be performed wearing your pair of Cloos sunglasses!

Polo is the oldest of equestrian sports, and is a game for technicians, tacticians, and spirited fighters. Known as 'The Gentleman's sport', the appeal of polo is a fascinating mix of technique, speed, and teamwork. Two teams can play with four members each, which can be a mix of male and female. The main objective of the game is to score goals against the opposing team. Using a mallet, the players can score a goal by driving a small wooden ball into the opponent’s goal.

The polo followership is growing across the world, with and increasing number of both players, spectators and major tournaments – and we see the reason why. If there happens to be a Polo club close by where you live, this sport is definitely worth trying out!

Stand-up paddle boarding

Stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) is a fun activity you can do on oceans, lakes, rivers, and bays. It’s a great full body workout and way to experience the beauty of the outdoors. Best of all, it’s perfect for people of all ages, body types and skill levels. There’s even enough room to paddle with a dog, friend, or child. Over the years, paddle boarding has continued to grow in popularity because  it gives you the freedom to explore the beautiful waters the surround our planet.

SUP has modern roots in Hawaii. Unlike traditional surfing where the rider sits until a wave comes, stand up paddle boarders stand on their boards and use a paddle to propel themselves through the water.

Paddle Tennis

Paddle is a racket sport that combines the elements of tennis, squash and badminton. The game was invented by Enrique Corcuera of Mexico, who created the first padel club in Marbella in 1974. The sport became very popular in Spain, which has been the professional circuit host of the World Padel Tour where it has been played since 2005. Over the course of the past 10 years, padel has begun to spread rapidly to the rest of Europe and the United States.

Compared to tennis, the court is smaller and has no doubles lanes, and the net is lower. Paddle tennis is played with a solid paddle as opposed to a strung raquet, and a depressurized tennis ball is used. The sport is a perfect outdoor summer activity, and provides a great workout while also being a very entertaining!

Blokarting/Beach Sailing

Blokart is a relatively new invention that started in New Zealand in 1999. Since 2000, the sport has gained ground over most of the world, especially in Europe, where we have wide beaches and good stable wind to play with. The activity offers a fun action experience, and feeling the rush is truly unique. Best of it all, blokarts are very maneuverable and easy to control, so it does not take require a lot of practice to participate in this activity.

Blokarting can be done on virtually any open area larger than the size of a tennis court. Beaches provide an ideal venue subject to tides, wind direction and density of people. Some of the most well used areas for Blokarting are in New Zealand, Australia, Denmark, The Netherlands, Spain, and United Kingdom.
