Cloos Journal: How Tom Brady Made It to The Big Game
With a record six rings already in his possession, our favorite quarterback Tom Brady will go for a seventh this Sunday when he and his teammates play in the Super Bowl. In this journal, we look back on this past season and discover how Brady once again made it to the big stage.

Last game with the Patriots

In March 2020, Brady confirmed the end of an era – namely, the quarterback announced that his football future would not be with New England. His final play in a Patriots uniform took place in January 2020 and was a playoff loss to the Tennessee Titans, who nearly ran the clock out, and then executed a perfect punt to the 1-yard line. After this game, speculations about whether Brady’s career with New England was over started.

Signing with the Buccaneers

Then, three days after announcing to leave the Patriots, the six-time Super Bowl champion posted on Instagram that he had signed a two-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “Excited, humble and hungry ... If there is one thing I have learned about football, it’s that nobody cares what you did last year or the year before that,” Brady wrote. The quarterback would now join an offense that led the NFL in passing yards last season, featuring a pair of 1,000-yard receivers in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. What the Buccaneers didn’t have in 2019, when they missed the playoffs for the 12th straight season was a quarterback who protected the football. Brady was called on to change that.

Challenges and blending together through the season

Now playing in the Buccaneers uniform, Brady entered his 21st season in the league in September 2020 at 43 years old. Much of the football world wondered, could he instantly make this team a real championship contender? Having been a part of an offense that had changed very little over the past 20 years and switching to a completely different style, team, and coaching staff would seem to be a great challenge. However, Brady proved to be prepared for this challenge with a great start to the season. Then there were a few losses in November, when the Buccaneers lost three games in four weeks, and it became questionable how far the Buccaneers would go in the season.

Playoffs

However, those doubts and uncertainties were all laid to rest when Brady started to put up the best numbers of any starting quarterback in nearly a half-century of football with the Buccaneers. Then, for the first time in 12 seasons, the Buccaneers clinched their spot in the playoffs on December 26th with a 47-7 victory over the Lions at Ford Field.

The winning streak never ended, and when the Buccaneers defeated the Green Bay Packers 31-26 in the NFC Championship Game, a spot in Super Bowl LV was earned. Tampa Bay will be the first team ever to battle for the Lombardi Trophy on their own home field. The Super Bowl is set for Sunday, January 7, at Raymond James Stadium, and we are more than excited.
